ETSU Buctainment will hold a showing of “Grease” at 8 p.m. Saturday in parking lot 21 behind Warf-Pickel. The parking lot opens at 7:30 p.m., and students must present their ETSU ID to enter.

This event will be the first in-person event open for all students. Buctainment has held all previous events this semester, such as the Kid Ace performance, online.

According to Haley Mullins, vice president of Buctainment, the idea came to fruition after “brainstorming possible outdoor large events that would meet state and university COVID-19 safety guidelines”.

Buctainment has been working on events to bring everyone together by safely creating ways for students to connect during the COVID-19 pandemic despite various challenges, including finding space to hold the drive-in movie.

“ETSU facilities was very helpful in arranging the parking lot layout and determining what spacing would be needed to follow safe guidelines,” Mullins said.

Due to COVID-19, many events that Buctainment usually puts on in person have been revised to online versions. However, these events will still be aimed at connecting the ETSU community.

“Although we couldn’t host any events in person as we usually do,” Mullins said. “We didn’t let COVID-19 keep us from keeping in touch with our students and community and shedding light on what is going on around us.”

Student workers involved with Buctainment have been busy trying to provide fun activities for everyone to enjoy.

“Each of our student programmers have been working very hard to create and host events like this one and many virtual events that are upcoming in the semester,” Mullins said. “We know how challenging the times are as of now for all students, but we are doing everything in our power to have a little fun during the mess of the world.”

Organizing the event has gone according to plan and there are plans in the future for more drive-in events pending the result of the “Grease” event.

“If this goes well, we will possibly have two more drive-ins this semester” Mullins said.
