The ETSU Marching Bucs have begun a series of Friday afternoon concerts. Their second performance on Sept. 25 was done by the ETSU Majorettes, though the in-person show was cancelled due to rain.
The performers did choreographed routines to the ETSU Fight Song, the Tennessee Waltz, Blue and Gold and a few classic Motown hits.
These concerts will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Borchuck Plaza near the Sherrod Library every Friday through Nov. 20. The performances will be livestreamed and posted to social media, but organizers hope to be able to have most shows open to watch in person, weather permitting.
“We never expected a large live crowd due to social distancing, etc., so livestreaming and videoing each event was always the main intent,” said Joe Moore, director of athletic bands at ETSU. “We have many people who aren’t able to attend live due to schedule or distance and this gives them an opportunity to see the performances. It also gives parents, friends, etc. of our members who live further away a chance to see the band perform.”
Each week, different groups within the Marching Bucs will be putting on performances. Those interested in attending the shows in person or watching online can expect to see shows by the Blue Band, Gold Band, the ETSU Majorettes and the ETSU Color Guard. Viewers can also expect special guest appearances on occasion by the ETSU Trumpet Ensemble and the ETSU Trombone Choir.
“I am most excited that our students are getting the opportunity to perform,” said Moore. “That is why they are in band to begin with. We also have a large fan base that we are excited to share our performances with. Ultimately, we hope to brighten people’s days and to let everyone know that music is continuing at ETSU.”
The next concert in the series will feature the Gold Band on Oct 2.
