Buckle up, Buccaneer fans — for the first time in ETSU history, regular season football is to be played in the spring.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Southern Conference released their slate of football games, which are to be played into the spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
ETSU’s football schedule kicks off Feb. 20 when the Bucs host Samford University at William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium.
The Bucs are one of five SoCon teams that will be participating in exclusively in-conference games this season.
The Bucs are slated to play eight regular season games, including four home games against Samford, Furman, Western Carolina and Chattanooga. The four away games consist of Virginia Military Institute, Wofford, The Citadel and Mercer.
ETSU will conclude their regular season schedule at home against Chattanooga on April 17. The Bucs have a bye week scheduled for March 20.
The Football Championship Subdivision playoffs will consist of only 16 teams this spring, as opposed to the usual 24-team format. The tournament is set to begin April 24.
The SoCon champion will be awarded an automatic bid to the FCS playoff.
