ETSU Health was awarded the 2020 Healthcare Heroes Cup of Kindness Community Service Award by the Business Journal of Tri-Cities for their diligent efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Five individuals from ETSU Health were named “Healthcare Heroes” including Dr. Bill Block, the vice president for clinical affairs and dean of Quillen College of Medicine, Dr. Joe Florence, a professor of Family Medicine and director of Rural Programs at Quillen College of Medicine, Dr. Sheri Holmes, the chief medical officer at ETSU Health and associate dean for clinical affairs at Quillen College of Medicine, Dr. Jonathan Moorman, the vice chair of research and scholarship, professor and chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Quillen College of Medicine and Dr. Blair Reece, a professor at Quillen College of Medicine and ETSU Health Internal Medicine provider.

“ETSU Health really has taken a leadership role in educating the community and also trying to be in the forefront of testing,” said Reece.

ETSU Health has been offering 24 hour turn around testing to everyone in the community and recently announced that they are re-opening drive-thru COVID-19 testing.

Regarding other precautions, they are emphasizing the use of masks, social distancing and handwashing.

“Those are the kind of the three linchpins of what needs to happen to get a better handle on this, and we certainly don’t have a handle on it right now,” said Holmes.

ETSU Health has also been focusing on educating the community by bringing in experts and other advisors to answer questions and to dispel concerns.

“I hope our community at large knows that all of us at ETSU Health live in this community,” said Reece. “We have family. We have children friends here, and we really have a vested interest in helping all of us get through this and we will always be an accurate voice.”
