Along with many online fitness class options, ETSU Campus Recreation has also been offering meditation sessions via Zoom.

Previous sessions have focused on blocking negative self-talk and encouraging body positivity. Sessions like this can be very helpful to students coping with the stress and anxiety that comes with attending college.

Meditation and guided breathing exercises have become pretty popular recently, now that there are apps people can access on their phones at any time. I have personally never tried a meditation or guided breathing app or anything similar, but it is something I feel like I could benefit from.

I am graduating this spring, and the stress of writing a thesis, interning for a local organization and still attending classes has kept me very busy. Graduating is an exciting time, but with that comes the stress of the impending job search, which is what has been taking the biggest toll on me as I am sure it is most seniors.

While I do not meditate for relaxation, I do have a different outlet to calm myself and relieve some stress: video games. I have a Nintendo Switch, and I play games on there and my laptop. I have found that playing video games helps me destress and take my mind off the major stressors in my life.

It also allows me to create my own goals within the game and focus on them, which both gives me something to work towards and helps me feel like I am accomplishing something small. Though I have not tried meditation, seeing campus rec offer an online session makes me want to try it out and maybe start incorporating it into my routine.

Whether one finds meditation effective or not, it is important to have some sort of outlet that can help keep oneself calm during stressful times. For some people it is mediation, exercise, listening to music, or playing some type of game, but whatever it is, it is important to have a consistent outlet.
