On April 5, ETSU Student Activities hosted a DIY Planter Decorating event in the Cave in the D.P. Culp Student Center. The event followed all COVID-19 safety protocols by enforcing the use of masks, social distancing and a no contact rule when it came to paint supplies.
Students had to register online to attend to adhere to the capacity limit. The event had a good turn-out, with multiple tables occupied at one time.
“Its really cool to be able to participate in activities like these,” said Nathan Presnell, a student attendee, “It felt great to be involved with something with other people, even though we are in the middle of a pandemic, and still feel safe while being able to have fun and do normal, fun college activities.”
When attendees arrived, they were allowed to pick out which planter they wanted as each came with seeds, potting soil and instructions how to grow the flower of the person’s choice. They offered a relatively wide variety of flowers to choose from, two of which were mini roses and forget-me-nots.
The volunteers running the event distributed paint and made sure that all health and safety protocols were followed. Each participant was offered all the supplies that they needed to enjoy the activity, including a paint brush.
”Painting planter pots was a great way to begin spring,” said Presnell, “I loved that I was able to go and paint and get to go home and plant a flower in it to herald in the spring season.”
Student activities will be hosting the next DIY Planter Decorating on April 9 in the Cave Plaza from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Those interested in attending must remember to register online before the event begins. The link to register can be found on the ETSU student activities calendar.
