Following ETSU men’s golf’s triumphant victory of the 2020-21 Southern Conference Championship last week, the Bucs acquired a collection of postseason accolades announced April 27, led by Archie Davies, (Carlisle, England) — a shining star from across the pond who is just getting started.

A redshirt-freshman, Davies was the SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week for April 14-20, and he would later add two more honors to the trophy case. The golfer was also recently named the SoCon Freshman of the Year and Co-Player of the Year following his season with the program.

The Bucs managed to pull away with the SoCon Championship thanks to an excellent showing from all the Bucs’ golfers. Shooting 5-under-par (867), the team was the only group to shoot under par during the tournament’s 54-hole event. This marked ETSU’s 26th conference championship in program history.

Davies achieved his first collegiate win at the SoCon Men’s Golf Championship on April 20, where the freshman shot 9-under-par (207) to capture the win following a dominant performance on the course.

The event marked the first time since 2007 that a freshman won an individual medal honor at a conference championship. Davies’ win helped ETSU double up on prizes, earning both the individual podium and team trophy for the 19th time in school history.

Davies is the 14th competitor to earn SoCon Player of the Year and only the 10th Freshman of the Year for the program. His performance at the Oconee Course in Greensborough, Georgia — along with four top-10 finishes, averaging 72.11 strokes per round and 17 rounds of par or better — helped him earn a spot on the All-SoCon and All-Freshman teams.

The program also had two other competitors earn All-SoCon honors — Trevor Hulbert (Orlando, Fla.) and Shiso Go (Kanagawa, Japan.).

Head Coach Jake Amos was also awarded Coach of the Year. This makes him the 17th recipient of the award in the program’s history and the 16th time in the SoCon.

The Bucs now look forward to the NCAA Regionals, which are May 17-19. The selection for the event takes place on May 5 on the Golf Channel.
