The ETSU’s Farmer’s Market is returning for the Fall 2021 semester.

“We’re really trying to focus more on true fresh food vendors this year,” said Christen Minnick, the director of operations for the Center of Rural Health Research.

Minnick serves as a faculty advisor for the market, which will be operating in its eighth year in 2021. The market was inoperative in 2020 due to COVID-19.

“Thankfully, a lot of the vendors that we have traditionally utilized and worked with in the past, they are excited to come back this fall,” continued Minnick.

The Farmer’s Market was established in 2012 as a student organization through the College of Public Health.

“It was started by a group of doctorate public health students who were interested in local food opportunities for students and staff in the campus community,” said Minnick.

The market will be held from Oct. 9-28 at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Thursday on the Pridewalk outside of the D.P. Culp Student Center.

“We traditionally invite students from the Bluegrass program to come and play during the market times as well, so we’re trying to get that worked out,” Minnick said.

The vendor list is still being confirmed and will be announced on the Farmer’s Market’s official channels in the coming weeks. Auntie Ruth’s Donuts from Jonesborough plans to make its return as a regular vendor.

“Any time anybody talks to me about the market, a big question is, ‘Are the donut people coming back?’ and the answer is yes,” said Minnick.

The Farmer’s Market has leadership opportunities for students and is actively seeking support. If you are interested in a position with the market, contact farmersmarketetsu@gmail.com.
