“Women, Gender, and Sexuality on Wednesdays,” formerly known as “Women on Wednesdays,” is revamped and better than ever to kick the school year off with new topics and ideas to share on campus.

Chelsea Wessels, founder of the series, explains how the series will have an fresh look and what will be in store for the upcoming season of the series.

“The Women on Wednesdays series started in 2012 to elevate women’s voices on campus from all different roles,” Wessels said. “Now, it is renamed to Women, Gender, and Sexuality on Wednesdays since the Women’s Studies program’s name was also changed to Women, Gender, and Sexuality studies.”

The guests include a wide variety of people.

“We try to include many different people in the talks,” Wessels said. “We invite women all over campus, whether it be from professors to advising, to talk about their work and research.”

The series will contain not only women but also men for the first time since the series launched.

“We are expanding the focus to include not just women but also work on gender and sexuality on campus,” Wessels said. “There will be non-women speaking on the series for the first time on important issues.”

The topics will be different and encompass a broad spectrum of ideas with every featured speaker.

“The talks can encompass a lot of different things,” Wessels said. “One of the speakers wrote a book on self-discovery, and another speaker is going into detail about more specific things such as discussing gender diverse individuals with polycystic ovary syndrome.”

There are five individual monthly talks, including two in October that will be hosted on Zoom at noon on Wednesdays.

The speakers include Stacey Williams, Mickey White, Michael Jones and Jessie Wang, and the first show will be a group containing Bethany Novotny, Stacy Cummings Onks and Michelle Hurley.
