Bucky’s Career Closet, located in the D.P. Culp Student Center, is delighted to give students interview-ready outfits.

Donna Noland, President Brian Noland’s wife, recognized the need for a clothing closet on campus.

“She felt that it was very important for people to have nice and clean clothes for interviews and jobs, making sure to give back to the community,” said Tanasi Rice, graduate assistant at University Career Services.

Currently-enrolled students may get one outfit a semester free of charge. This includes clothing, shoes, socks, belts and whatever else the student may need. The outfits are entirely the student’s and do not need to be returned.

“Clothing is such an important part of presentation, too,” said Rice. “We want to make sure that everyone feels nice in their skin.”

Proper attire for interviews is important in landing jobs after graduation, but not every student has the means to purchase business wear. Bucky’s Career Closet ensures that students are confident in their appearance and professional abilities.

Rice commented that after tabling for events, students are ecstatic to discover that they have access to an interview-ready outfit each semester for free.

Bucky’s Career Closet is sorted gender-neutrally by category and size for students’ comfort when selecting attire.

“We’re open to everyone of all ethnicities, genders and identities,” said Rice. “Anyone is welcome to come into our closet and get clothes, and I think it’s very important because certain groups of people have always been excluded from aspects of work culture.”

University Career Services offers a range of opportunities for professional development to current and graduated students, including resume review, mock interviews and career counseling.

Students will need to make an appointment to visit the closet by contacting University Career Services at careers@etsu.edu or 423-439-4450. University Career Services and Bucky’s Career Closet are open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

To donate, drop off clothing, preferably on hangers, at Bucky’s Pantry.
