ETSU Votes will be partnering with the Tennessee Secretary of State’s office on a voter registration drive at the Sept. 11 tailgate.

They will be in Lot 21 from 3-6 p.m., and students, faculty and community members can stop by to register to vote, update their registration status, gather materials about upcoming elections and grab various ETSU Votes goodies.

They will move inside during the game and will remain until halftime.

“ETSU Votes initiative is built around increasing voter participation, registration, education and turnout. So, for a number of years, we have celebrated, observed and coordinated activities around National Voter Registration Month and National Voter Registration Day,” said Joy Fulkerson, director of leadership and engagement.

National Voter Registration Day falls on Sept. 28 this year, but students all over the state will have access to these drives.

“We work so hard to help students see themselves as voters as a part of their identity, and so, doing that on campus where they are already thinking about their identity as a student makes sense,” said Fulkerson.

The Secretary of State’s office will be traveling to four-year universities across Tennessee to host voter registration drive throughout football season.

Secretary of State Tre Hargett is very excited for students to get involved and educated about the voter registration process and hopes that students recognize the importance of electing those who will be lobbying for them.

“Our office is excited to work alongside ETSU students and the Washington County Election Commission to help Bucs get registered to vote,” said Hargett. “These Voter Registration Tailgates are the perfect opportunity to remind fans across our great state that it has never been easier to register to vote or cast a ballot in Tennessee.”

Participants will be able to talk with members of the secretary’s office as well as the local election commission.

Of course, if students can not register in person, they can learn about the process of online voter registration at the event.
