Entering the day ranked No.16 in the nation, the Bucs offense was firing on all cylinders Saturday night as ETSU moved to (3-0) for just the ninth time in program history after a 38-6 blowout at William B. Greene Jr. Stadium against the Delaware State Hornets.

The Bucs ground game was on fire for the third straight week, totaling over 300 yards on the ground, in Saturday’s win. Only three games into the season and the Bucs have already rushed for more than 700 yards thanks to helping from Quay Holmes (Powder Springs, Ga.) and Jacob Saylors (Jasper, Tenn.).

The two leaders of the committee saw the most action as Holmes ran for 157 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns and Saylors ended the day with 109 yards and eleven carries and matched his teammate with two touchdowns himself.

The Bucs would score on their first drive of the game and not look back. The Bucs entered the second quarter with a 10-0 lead and a ton of momentum, and it showed as the Bucs would score twice in the quarter putting them up 24-0 after four consecutive scoring drives. Delaware State would score before half to make the score 24-6 following a blocked PAT by DL Max Evans (Middletown, Ohio).

The Bucs would find the endzone two more times as Saylors and Holmes each would score again. Holmes, now the second player in Bucs history to run for over 3,000 yards, sits behind ETSU legend Brandon Walker and his 4,095-yard all-time record.

The Bucs continue to show their defensive might. Last season, not a single game was decided by more than one score, but the Bucs have limited their opponents scoring so far. In three games the Bucs have outscored their foes 106-23.

The Blue and Gold will hope to keep their momentum going as they open their SoCon campaign on the road when the Bucs travel to face-off against the Samford Bull Dogs on Sept. 25 with kick-off scheduled for 3 p.m.
