ETSU will be hosting Tri-Cities Financial Aid Night event on Thursday, Oct. 7, from 5-8 p.m. on the third floor of the D.P Culp Student Center.
Students across the Tri-Cities who will be attending college in the 2022-2023 academic year can stop by and receive help filing the upcoming FAFSA, which opens Oct. 1.
“The main purpose of the event is to provide students with one-on-one assistance in filing the 2022-2023 FAFSA, so we’ll have our counselors and representatives from TRIO there to provide that one-on-one assistance,” said OJ Early, the communications coordinator for financial aid and scholarships.
Representatives from the Center for Academic Achievement and University Housing will be there as well, providing refreshments and hosting giveaways for students.
“This is a really great event to not only get your FAFSA filed, but also get any other questions you have answered in a fun environment,” said Early.
Students attending the event and filing their FAFSA should bring these items: FSA ID, Social Security Number, parents’ social security numbers if they are a dependent, driver’s license, alien registration number for immigrants, 2020 tax information for student and parents of dependents, records of untaxed income and information on financial assets.
All this information is important to verifying that the FAFSA can be filed correctly.
“The FAFSA is your path to all federal financial aid, as well as many state and school funding programs and opportunities. The Tennessee Hope Lottery Scholarship and the Pell Grant will not be available to you without a completed FASFA. Some opportunities also function on a first come, first serve basis, so when those funds run out, that money is gone,” said Early.
If students are unable to attend the event, they can reach out to the ETSU Educational Opportunity Center for free FAFSA filing assistance.
