Meet Quay Holmes, one of ETSU football’s most explosive players this season. Holmes plays as a running back for the team as ETSU continues undefeated.

Holmes comes from Powder Springs, Ga., where he started playing football when he was 5 years old. He has been named to the SoCon Honor Roll and three All-American Teams. At ETSU, he plays as a junior on the field but graduated last May with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in sociology.

Now he is working on a graduate certificate in sports administration. Eventually, Holmes wants to go into sports psychology; so he can always stay close to football but delve into the psychology of the game.

Holmes chose ETSU as his college for its slow, scenic environment and its rebooted football program. “Just knowing that they had just brought football back; I’ve always wanted to leave a legacy somewhere, and I just felt like ETSU was a great place and a great foundation of, you know, really making a lot of history and really just leaving a legacy. I feel like I’ve done a pretty good job at that so far,” Holmes said.

“[He’s a] good teammate, you know? Shows up every day ready to work. You do something wrong, he’ll let you know,” said Holmes’ teammate and roommate Tre’mond Shorts (Hampton, Ga.). “Great player. You know, Saturdays, lights come on, Quay shines.”

With the exciting season so far, Holmes has faith in his team. He emphasizes that everybody believes in each other and pushes each other to do their best. He wants his team to work on consistent but aggressive playing, without getting too cocky.

“We’ve got to prepare every week and not let our record you know, make us get comfortable and satisfied, we got to keep on staying hungry and pushing for more,” said Holmes.
