ETSU Athletics and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee collaborated in hosting Bucky’s Boo Bash on Wednesday, Oct. 27.

They invited ETSU and the Johnson City community to this free, interactive event where families could meet the university’s athletic teams and then receive candy and win prizes.

Gathered in the concourse of the William B. Greene stadium, athletes and coaches collaborated in fun, kid-friendly group costumes. The women’s soccer team, in particular, spirited their inner Bucky in valiant pirate attire.

“This student athlete advisory committee is very community-oriented, and we like to give back. This event allowed for the community to come out and have a cool trick-or-treating situation without taking away the actual day of Halloween,” said Dr. Dawn Turner, Senior Associate Director for Compliance and Student Athlete Welfare.

Dr. Turner emphasized that the most important thing ETSU Athletics wants the community to know is that these student athletes are actively striving to be integrated into the student body and the local community.

For further events and activities, ETSU Athletics will recognize November as National Homelessness Awareness Month. They will team up with the Washington County Humane Society to serve the less fortunate children in the local area. Each team will also help package meals for the local homeless community, in which they participate every month.

In addition, every athlete completes a minimum of 10 community service hours for the year.

“As president of SAAC [Student Athlete Advisory Committee], I have challenged every athlete to succeed… The mission of SAAC is to empower our athletes, but also to serve the community we represent, and as long as I am president, I will continue to encourage events like this,” said Mary Brown, President of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
