On Feb. 25, 2022, the East Tennessee State University Student Government Association will begin the process of electing its cabinet for the 2022-2023 academic school year.

Students who are interested can apply for a SGA position through the SGA’s website, where they are asked to answer a short list of questions such as “Why do you feel qualified for this position?” and “What do you want to accomplish with your leadership/involvement in SGA?” Once the prospective candidates are selected, they will advertise their campaign to the student body, who will then vote in a campus-wide election during the late spring semester.

“The purpose of the Student Government Association is to provide a means whereby members of the student body may express themselves effectively in the development of maintenance in the University programs, to assist in the coordination of activities and services for the benefit of the student body, and to promote better understanding and cooperation between students, faculty, administration, and others,” according to the SGA website.

The SGA is comprised of three branches: executive, legislative, and judicial. The Executive Branch consists of the SGA President, the Executive Vice President, and the Vice President for Finance and Administration, as well as any additional members of the President’s cabinet. The Legislative Branch, also known as the Senate, consists of senators for each of ETSU’s colleges – which are elected by the student body in the general election. The Judicial Branch, also known as the Student Court, consists of the Chief Justice and several Associate Justices.

The current SGA cabinet includes Mason Mosier as president, Ethan Becker as executive vice president, and Paulina Ramirez as vice president for finance and administration, as well as David Crabtree, Emily Brown, Tessa Cavender, Morgan Colley, Savana Edwards, and a conglomeration of other established student leaders.

Applications for the 2022-2023 Student Government Association Cabinet open on Feb. 25, 2022. Students who are interested in learning more about the application process can visit https://www.etsu.edu/sga.com.
