On March 2, 2022, ETSU’s Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement and the Washington County Election Commission announced the opening of ETSU’s very own early voting location.

It is once again voting season in Washington County, and with the opening of an early voting location on campus, students, staff, and faculty will be able to easily find time to cast their votes.

“What a wonderful opportunity this is for students, faculty, staff, alumni and the larger community,” said Dana Jones who is the Administrator of Elections for the Washington County Election Commission. “We know that when people can cast their ballot in familiar places, more voters vote.”

This early voting site is located on the second floor of the Culp Center near the Carrier Center. While the early voting site will not be open for the entirety of the early voting period, according to the ETSU website, students, staff, and faculty will be able to take advantage of this service for about four days out of each period. Office hours for the early voting site will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This year, voters in Washington County will be able to weigh in on elections for a number of important government offices. Some of the offices on the ballot for this year include: county mayor, county clerk, sheriff, various judicial roles and school boards for districts one and three. Early voting for these offices will be available on campus April 18-22 for primaries and July 18-22 for general.

Many state-level government offices are on the ballot as well; this includes intermediate appellate courts, State Supreme Court, State House of Representatives, State Senate, Governor, and other state executive offices. Finally, it is time to elect a representative for the U.S. House of Representatives. Early voting for these offices will be available on campus July 18-22 for primaries and October 24-28 for general.

We all know that voting is an important civic responsibility, especially when it come to local and state offices. Early voting allows people to chose more convenient times to go and vote, and having an early voting site on campus simply adds to the convenience.
