ETSU Baseball ended its 12-game home streak against Radford on Tuesday, March 29, at Thomas Stadium.

The Bucs started off strong with sophomore Jackson Green (Blackwood, New Jersey) hitting the first grand slam of the season in the first inning.

“I went up there with two outs, tried to get a hit, fought my way to three-two, saw a couple sliders, he left one over the middle and got the head out,” said Green.

Junior Kyle Rachels (Manteca, California) hit his second home run of the season and the second of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The team won the game against the Highlanders 14-9, earning them a double-digit score for the 12th time this season.

“I’ve been happy with the way our starting pitching has gone, the bullpen has helped us in games, and I think our offense has been pretty good,” said head coach Joe Pennucci. “We’ve been relentless on a lot of ways offensively and been able to come back in games, and defensively we’ve certainly gotten better, so I feel really good about that.”

Radford fought back in the sixth inning, making the score 6-5 to which the Bucs responded by earning four runs in the seventh inning and three runs in the eighth.

Radford had all the bases loaded when pitcher, sophomore Cade Carlson (Carmel, Indiana), held the Highlanders there and gave the Bucs two different scoreless relief innings.

The team is heading to Baylor to play a triple-header Friday, April 1, through Sunday, April 3.

“I’m excited, I think we have a really good squad and we’re going to compete and do our best,” said Green.

After the triple-header, the team will play Appalachian State on Tuesday, April 5, at home before kicking off the conference play next weekend.
