East Tennessee State University’s men’s golf team traveled to Cary, North Carolina, to compete in the Stitch Intercollegiate on Friday, April 8, and Saturday, April 9.

This was their last regular-season tournament before SoCon.

“We had a lot of new players come in this year, and I think in the fall we did a lot of really great things. When we came back, we didn’t look very good, we got off to a slow start in Puerto Rico,” said head coach Jake Amos. “We changed a few things and we’ve slowly been working really hard and getting better every week.”

The Bucs finished day one of the tournament in 6th place for the team rankings after having to stop round two due to the dark sky.

Picking up the rest of round two and completing the final round on day two, the Bucs ended the tournament in 7th place as a team.

As for individual scores, sophomore Archie Davies (Carlisle, England) carried the team ending his day tied for third at three-under par. On day two, Davies led the Bucs and finished the tournament tied for 8th with a player from Toledo. During the final round, Davies carded (75) +3 with his final score 1-over-par (217).

Sophomore Remi Chartier (Montreal, Canada) was the second-highest golfer for the Bucs this weekend.  In his opening round on day one, he finished with three birdies and three bogeys making his score (72) E. He ended day one in a tie for 8th place with four other golfers.

“What’s most important is keeping your energy levels high and keeping well rested,” said Chartier.

On day two, Chartier tied for 29th place with his teammate, sophomore Ben Carberry (Bonnybridge, Scotland), and four other golfers. Carberry played two birdies and three bogeys during the final round scoring (73) +1.

Next up for the team is the SoCon Championship which will be played in Greensboro, Georgia from Friday, April 22 through Sunday, April 24.
