When Miranda Lambert takes the stage on April 29, it won’t be the first time she has set foot on ETSU’s campus. In 2006, Lambert performed alongside Dierks Bentley and the Randy Rogers Band as part of the Student Government Association’s fall concert that year.

“I remember we all had a blast, that audience was on their feet almost the entire time,” said Lambert in an exclusive interview with the East Tennessean. “I love country music and any time I get to play a show with great artists like Dierks and Randy Rogers it’s a good time. Y’all know how to have fun out there at ETSU!”

Her ETSU performance will be particularly special, falling on the same day as her new album release. The nearly hour-long album “Palomino” will feature a song with the B-52’s, a cover of Mick Jagger’s “Wandering Spirit,” and much more. She plans to perform some of her new songs at the show, including her lead single “If I Was A Cowboy.”

“I can’t wait to play some of the new songs at the show for everyone at East Tennessee State University,” Lambert shared. “We’re still working on the set list, but I’ve gotten to play ‘Actin’ Up,’ ‘ Strange’ and ‘If I Was a Cowboy’ a few times already and the fans have had fun with those.”

Lambert is particularly thrilled to be the first artist to perform a concert inside William B. Greene Jr. Stadium since its completion in 2017.

“It just adds to the specialness to get to “christen” a new venue,” Lambert said. “I’m excited to bring the party to y’all and kick things off with country music.”

Lambert’s year has been packed with both announcements and recognition; in March she was awarded Entertainer of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards. Her video for “If I Was a Cowboy” won Female Video of the Year at the CMT Music Awards earlier this month. She also recently announced her upcoming Las Vegas residency. She is excited to play hit songs from her decades of performing.

“Working on packing 20 years of my career into the show— from ‘Kerosene’ to ‘Palomino,’ and I’m looking forward to taking people on that journey,” said Lambert.

Before her residency begins, Lambert will depart on “The Bandwagon Tour” alongside Little Big Town. They hit the road together just a week after Lambert’s performance in Johnson City, heading next to Houston. “The Bandwagon Tour” saw its first successful run in 2018 when Lambert and Little Big Town co-headlined together.

Lambert continues to push her additional projects and passions that exist outside of her music career. MuttNation Foundation is Lambert’s nonprofit, whose mission is to “to promote and facilitate the adoption of shelter pets, encourage spay & neuter for all pets, and educate the public about the importance and beneficial impact of these actions,” according to their website. Their newest campaign, “Love Harder,” took off last year.

“[The campaign] shines a spotlight on dogs that have a harder time getting adopted, like pit bulls, senior dogs, big black dogs and dogs with disabilities,” she said. “Any time I get to combine my passion of music and mutts, it’s a win!”

Lambert opened her Casa Rosa bar in downtown Nashville last year, and she said she recently had a meeting for the newest season of her Idyllwind line of clothing, boots and accessories.

“I can’t wait for those new pieces to come out,” she said. “The brand is all about celebrating who you are and is designed for the everyday girl who’s also a badass!”
