With the first day of classes quickly approaching, ETSU is welcoming students back with week-long festivities and open arms.

“The purpose of Welcome Week is to make all students, especially our new students, feel comfortable and at home on campus. We want them to feel the excitement of ETSU campus life and to learn what resources and involvement opportunities are available during their time at ETSU,” said Carter Warden, director of Student Activities and Organizations.

Beginning Aug. 21, the Division of Student Life and Enrollment is sponsoring the annual Welcome Week along with the office of Student Activities and Organizations. The week-long celebration will last from Aug. 21 to Aug. 26, continuing throughout each day.

Welcome Week will include ten events, each occurring on different days of the week. Some of the events include the Welcome Back Block Party, Bucky’s Back to School Bash, Campus Roundup, Cultural Jam and an outdoor concert.

The Welcome Back Block Party will take place on Aug. 21 at Tri-Hall Field and will last from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The block party will include games, free food and giveaway opportunities. It will allow students to meet their peers as well acclimate to being back on campus for a new school year.

Along with the Welcome Back Block Party, there will be several opportunities for students to take a glimpse into the numerous organizations and opportunities on campus. Campus Roundup will take place on Aug. 26 at 10 a.m. and will last until 2 p.m. in the Quad. Students will have a chance to meet organizations, departments and special interest groups.

Another annual event at Welcome Week is the Cultural Jam. It will take place in the Quad and will last from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 25. This event is specially curated to celebrate the different cultures on campus, as well as the various programs that the university offers. The university, along with the Mary V. Jordan Multicultural Center, will be hosting culturally diverse performances, food and activities at the Cultural Jam.

“The division of Student Life & Enrollment is committed to the promotion of diversity of people and thought in the ETSU community. Through culturally diverse entertainment, activities and food, the event provides exposure to different cultures and promotes upcoming programs and events offered by the University and the Mary V. Jordan Multicultural Center,” said Warden.

Students will not want to miss out on the numerous opportunities and entertainment that the University is offering for the first week back.
