ETSU men’s soccer traveled to Clinton, South Carolina on Sept. 6 to face off against Presbyterian College inside Martin Stadium. The Bucs suffered their first loss of the season with a score of 0-2.

ETSU had some new faces in the starting lineup for this match, including goalkeeper Marc Kouadio (Montreal, Canada) who finished the night with two saves in his season debut.

After a strong defensive showing from both teams in the first half, Presbyterian’s David Citron got things going for his team when he was fouled driving toward ETSU’s goal. This resulted in a penalty kick that was successfully converted in minute 55 by junior Gerald Lopez, giving him his second goal of the season. This was the first ever goal allowed by ETSU in the all-time series history of playing Presbyterian.

Shortly after that, in minute 69 of the match, Presbyterian scored their second goal after forward Ben Kaindi made his way past a few of ETSU’s defenders. Kaindi’s shot on the ground sneaked its way past Kouadio giving Presbyterian a 2-0 lead.

ETSU was able to put pressure on Presbyterian with 10 of their 15 shots coming in the second half but only three being on goal for the match. Kieran Richards (Hamilton, New Zealand) led the Bucs with six total shots. Tarik Pannholzer (Flensburg, Germany) followed him up with three shots of his own. Presbyterian had a total of nine shots with four of those being on goal as they improve to (4-0-0) on the season.

The Bucs were shutout for the first time this season as their record now sits at (3-1-0). This was the second game of their four-game road trip. The blue and gold will travel down to Spartanburg, South Carolina on Sept. 10 at 3 p.m. to face the Spartans of USC Upstate (0-2-0).
