ETSU’s triathlon team opened their season and hosted the first ever ETSU aquathlon on Saturday, Sept. 3.
This meet featured ETSU, King University, Queens University of Charlotte and Lenoir-Rhyne University.
The teams started with a 500-yard swim in ETSU’s pool and a two-mile run around the athletic fields trail.
Both the team crown and the individual title went to Queens University of Charlotte. Freshman Letizia Martinelli (Lugaggia, Switzerland) won the individual title with a time of 17:21. Places two through seven also went to players on the Queens University of Charlotte team. This was the start of their season as well as the beginning of their transition period into D1 athletics.
ETSU’s sophomore Abby Church (Chantilly, Virginia) placed eighth in the meet with a time of 18:36, earning ETSU 26 points. Not far behind her was sophomore Izi Belogay (Sterling, Virginia) in 10th place with a time of 18:46.
Queens University of Charlotte earned 155 points as a team while Lenoir-Rhyne University earned 111 points, coming in second place. ETSU had a team score of 98 points placing third while King University came in fourth with 43 points.
ETSU will continue the season competing at the Cal-Tri Charlottesville on Sunday, Sept. 25 in Troutman, North Carolina with a 7:40 a.m. start time.
