With the Fall 2022 semester in full swing, ETSU’s Office of Equity and Inclusion continues to share and promote its mission on campus.

On Friday, Sept. 9, it will open its doors between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for all students, faculty and staff to meet the office staff and the organizations with which they collaborate. Light refreshments and giveaways will also be included.

The Office of Equity and Inclusion is led by Dr. Keith Johnson, the vice president for equity and inclusion, who strives to promote a respectful, welcoming environment on campus. Dr. Johnson and his team work to bring a powerful sense of community to ETSU by embracing and encouraging people from all different cultures, backgrounds and statuses.

“The office, historically, has been all things ‘equity.’ When I took on the role as vice president, I wanted to have a major shift in terms of focus,” said Johnson. “So, the office now is more of a support system.”

The Office of Equity and Inclusion offers a variety of other events, including webinars, conferences, workshops and more. Its bi-monthly “Lunch and Learn” sessions, for instance, examine topics such as mental health and race, which are led by professors, instructors and other staff members.

“We are a support office here to support students,” said Johnson. “Our goal is to make sure that we create an environment – a climate – where all students can feel included and they feel a part of.”

The Office of Equity and Inclusion is located at 109 Burgin E. Dossett Hall on 1276 Gilbreath Drive. For more information, contact the office at 423-439-4445 or visit their website https://www.etsu.edu/equity/.
