On Sept. 9, ETSU’s new Women in Film group launched its brand new club.

The club is led by senior Brooke Buttrum and junior Ally Burgner, both media and communication majors and film fans who plan to work in the film industry after graduating.

“We thought there could be another club that is slightly different and more specific to women in film and that whole separate category that is not talked about a lot normally,” said Buttrum, Women in Film Group President.

The Women in Film Group commenced its new club with an introductory meeting on Friday, Sept. 9 with a screening of “Gone Girl,” as well as light snacks and drinks. Meetings will continue to be held every Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. in room 518 of Warf-Pickel Hall.

“When I got through my classes – like actual film classes – I noticed it was a lot of males, and it is a male-dominated field, so I was kind of really scared about that, and it made me feel a little nervous,” Ally Burgner, vice president.

The objective for this group is to create and foster a place for women in film to feel more included and heard and understand that they can make it in the film industry.

Despite the group’s title, Buttrum and Burgner strongly encourage everyone to participate, from passionate film fans to those interested in learning more about women in the film industry.

“I am so excited about this because I feel like we are creating like a really safe space where women’s voices can be heard,” said Burgner.
