ETSU P.E.A.K.S is a peer-mentoring program with a leadership initiative that began as a way to connect the disciplines of the honors college and is now expanding to open up leadership opportunities for all students.

“The goal of P.E.A.K.S. is to develop strong leaders through relationships, leadership style and also to provide (a) meaningful, diverse experience for participants,” said Hannah Winston, P.E.A.K.S. president.

P.E.A.K.S. stands for persistence, empathy, authenticity and skills. It aims to provide academic and social support to first time students by providing weekly meetings with a small group.

P.E.A.K.S. guides are given the opportunity to teach and hone their own leadership style. They meet with a group of 6-10 students for an hour each week, working to develop a curriculum that works best for them and the needs of their groups. The program helps to build leadership skills through group activities, volunteerism and events.

“I want people to know that if they are interested in either joining P.E.A.K.S. or becoming a P.E.A.K.S. guide that our number one goal is to meet their needs,” said Winston. “If you’re interested in being a P.E.A.K.S. guide, particularly, we want people that are passionate about supporting others and who are really interested in having the creativity and the freedom to really design and lead their own events based off the needs of those people.”
