ETSU volleyball went to Clarksville, Tennessee to play in a doubleheader on Sept 16. The Bucs’ first game was against UT Martin and the nightcap was against Austin Peay. The Bucs earned a 3-0 sweep against UT Martin, while losing 0-3 against Austin Peay.

After beating UT Martin in the first game of the doubleheader, the Bucs extended their winning streak to five, the most notable win coming against the Clemson Tigers. This streak came to an end when the team lost to Austin Peay.

In the first frame against the Austin Peay Governors, the Bucs looked to be in control early, jumping out to a 4-1 lead. After battling back and forth, the Bucs had a 20-15 lead before the Govs ultimately went on a 7-1 run to win the first set 25-23.

In the second frame, the blue and gold built a 4-1 lead once again. Capitalizing on a good start to the second set, the Bucs had a 17-13 lead before the Govs went on a 5-0 run, putting them up by one. The Bucs regained the lead after three consecutive kills and gained a 21-19 advantage. Austin Peay had another late rally that ended with them taking the second set 25-23.

In the third set, it was Austin Peay who took a 4-1 lead to get things going. The Govs seemed to be in charge despite ETSU’s efforts at a comeback, winning the final set 25-18.

Jenna Forster (Maryville, Tennessee) led the way for the Bucs with 14 kills. Caroline Dykes (Flower Mound, Texas) had a total of 25 assists for the night. Austin Peay had a 50-37 kill advantage over the Bucs, while also having 43 digs to ETSU’s 28.

The Bucs had a 3-0 sweep against North Dakota State on Sept. 17 and will look to start a new winning streak against Wofford at home on Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. This will be the first conference game for ETSU this season. The Bucs currently sit with a (6-6) record, being 3-0 at home inside Brooks Gym.
