Ultimate Frisbee is a high energy game that takes competitiveness and concentration. Here on campus, students enjoy this game and the skills learned.

Team captain Andrew Litz and member Claire Burns shared background information and the history of how the team started.

“The team officially began as a club sport at ETSU in 2007,” Litz said. “The current iteration of the team we have going now started in 2019.”

No credentials are necessary–anyone can join the ultimate frisbee team, even without any prior experience.

“Anyone can join our co-ed team. It doesn’t matter what year they are or what gender they identify as,” Litz said.

There is no financial responsibility to be a part of the fun. Burns explained that the team is inclusive and does not require members to pay dues or fees.

“Most people join the club and stay in it because they either love the sport or they love the environment,” Burns said. “Anyone is free to join, and we do not have dues for doing so.”

As a team member, when you make significant progress on the team, you can be a mentor to newer members and gain leadership skills.

“As you progress through your years of involvement you will gain responsibilities, such as teaching the newer members and helping run practices smoother,” Burns said.

There are also multiple practices a week to improve skills, attend social events with the team and compete in non-competitive and competitive tournaments.

“The social, family-like connection of the club is one of the key things that someone will be a part of when joining,” Litz said.

The practices occur on three separate days, Mondays and Wednesdays at 7-9:30 p.m., and Fridays at 5-7 p.m., located on the CPA Athletic Fields.
