The Rotaract Club, under new student leadership, has made a return to ETSU.

The club has existed on campus for 26 years, chartered in 1996 and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Johnson City. The club encourages students to become involved in their local communities and participate in community service.

The Rotaract Club is the collegiate level of Rotary International, which works to “provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace,” according to their website.

Having been discontinued for a few years due to members of the club graduating, freshmen Macy Strader and Natalie White have brought back the club as new presidents with big plans in the making.

“When that person graduated, nobody picked it up,” Strader said. “We found that out after going to an actual rotary meeting at the Johnson City Rotary and were like, ‘Let’s pick this up.’”

As freshmen at ETSU, Strader and White accepted the challenge of taking on a club. Although new in their roles as club leaders, they are confident in their experience as scholars as well as reassured by the many resources available on campus.

Taking note of what the club has achieved in the past, Strader hopes to aim higher to become a club from which students can benefit greatly.

“We want to be a welcoming environment for students looking for their place on campus, who may be new to Johnson City, or wanting to network in their career path,” said Strader. “Rotary is about helping people and we want to help our members.”
