On Oct. 15, Yung Gravy headlined the ETSU Student Government Association fall concert Saturday evening at Freedom Hall Civic Center.
Gravy first gained large recognition via Soundcloud in 2017 when his single “Mr. Clean” quickly gained popularity. Since then, he has released four feature albums with one on the way, releasing later this October. Plus, “Mr. Clean” is now certified platinum by the RIAA.
The release of Yung Gravy tickets caused hysteria on campus, with student general admission floor tickets selling out on the first day of their release, with middle and upper sections not falling far behind. On the day of the concert, students began queuing hours before the doors opened, hoping to snag a close view.
“I have listened to him for several years now and I am so excited to finally see him live,” said Kaci Rae Bartley, an avid Yung Gravy fan.
The concert, which began at 7 p.m., opened with pop singer-songwriter Lisa Heller and indie music collective Peach Tree Rascals.
Gravy took the stage around 9:30 p.m., coming in strong with “The Boys Are Back In Town,” followed by other hits such as “1 Thot 2 Thot Red Thot Blue Thot” and “Whip a Tesla.”
“Also you know what, where my Buccaneers at,” said Gravy to the crowd of over 5,000.
In between songs during his set, he put an emphasis on the crowd staying hydrated, healthy and happy by tossing water bottles, cereal and signed Lunchables into the crowd.
Gravy closed his set with the one and only “Betty (Get Money),” walking off briefly then returning to gift fans with red roses.
“I have a new outlook on Yung Gravy after this concert, that’s for sure!” said Caroline Koluch, ETSU freshman and new Gravy fan.
