On Nov. 30, from 3:30-4:30 p.m., ETSU’s Little Bucs Early Childhood Program is hosting an open house for all student families.
Little Bucs is a program for ETSU student families that are seeking childcare. The open house is being held in hopes of informing families of the program and how it is beneficial to them. Families will be invited to tour the program, meet with teachers, speak to the director, peek inside classrooms and learn more about the program philosophy.
“I feel that we are a behind-the-scenes program that really does a lot for ETSU in general. By taking care of the children of students at ETSU, we’re allowing them to go to classes. We’re allowing them to study, ” said Amanda Osborne, program director.
The Little Bucs Early Childhood Program takes children from 3 months to 5 years of age. It is an inquiry-based program that allows for the children to lead their learning. Teachers observe the children, see what their interests are and help guide them in the best way for that specific child.
Little Bucs also partners with faculty to provide learning opportunities for students. The program acts as a training site for students in the Early Childhood program where they can serve as teacher’s assistants. The program also employs student workers to allow for experience working with children first-hand.
“I think it’s important for students at ETSU to know that we’re here and we want to help them achieve everything that they want to academically,” said Osborne.
