Former ETSU standout pitcher Micah Kaczor has joined the 2023 coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach for the Bucs baseball squad. Kaczor finished his career with a 12-6 record and a 3.24 ERA, along with awards in both the conference and national level.

Kaczor was born in in Logan, Utah, and he finished his high school career at Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, Tennessee. His father, Nate Kaczor, is currently in his 15th season as an NFL coach for the Washington Commanders as the special teams coordinator.

Kaczor went on to a three-year career with the Colorado Rockies where he made it to the Double-A level. While there, he finished with a 7-6 record and a 4.23 ERA. He was briefly promoted to Triple-A for assignment with the Albuquerque Isotopes. Kaczor came to ETSU his junior year after a stint at Western Kentucky. In his senior year, he finished with a 2.13 ERA, pitching over 100 innings with 85 strikeouts in 16 appearances. This earned him first team all-conference that year.

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to join Coach Pennucci’s staff and learn from him, as well as Coach Jamie Pinzino and Coach Chad Marshall,” said Kaczor. “It has been a dream of mine to coach at my alma mater ever since I played here. I am excited to get to work with this coaching staff, the group of guys that we have and the new ones coming in. It is a fun and exciting time to be at ETSU, and I am appreciative for the chance to be a part of it.”

Kaczor made his way into the ETSU record books as he recorded the third-lowest ERA in school history (3.42) and the lowest single-season ERA since 1981 (2.13) during the 2019 season.

The season begins on Friday, Feb. 17, at 3 p.m. as ETSU hosts Toledo inside Thomas Stadium.
