On Jan. 20, ETSU held a ceremony for Taco Bell’s grand opening on the first floor of the D.P. Culp Center. The ceremony featured a ribbon cutting along with music, cake and a speech made by SGA President Mason Mosier.

Promotional items such as taco-shaped stress toys, free cups of Taco Bell’s Baja Blast and free tacos were available.

What was once a promise has become reality as the SGA cabinet cut the ribbon to Taco Bell’s success on campus.

Paulina Ramirez, executive vice president of the SGA, has been working with the rest of the SGA cabinet for the past year to bring Taco Bell back to ETSU. She expressed gratification to see it finally happen and was delighted to see the ETSU population come together to celebrate this honorable achievement.

“It’s what we were fighting for last year and seeing it accomplished is a big deal,” Ramirez said. “I’m here to celebrate those that made it happen.”

As far as competition with the other available food options, Ramirez mentioned there was a possibility of Taco Bell coming head-to-head with Chick-Fil-A and Mein Bowl, but with each having its own fans and non-fans alike, it is simply another option for ETSU students.

While past food businesses such as Steak ‘N Shake and Bucaneer Burgers were replaced by what now is Taco Bell, they are not long forgotten as they are part of Taco Bell’s becoming.

“They were great options for while you were here studying,” Ramirez said. “I just think Taco Bell is a little more appealing to the bigger crowd.”

In Mosier’s speech, he thanked the many staff and students who made this addition possible. In his words, “This is so much more than the opening of a restaurant.”
