ETSU men’s and women’s track and field wrapped up competition in the Vanderbilt Invitational on Saturday with sophomore Kiera Snyder (Clyde, Mich.) stealing the spotlight following a second-place finish in the 3000m event.

For the second consecutive weekend, Snyder found herself on the podium in the 3000m event. Following up her gold from the VMI Invitational in Lexington, Va., Snyder posted a new personal best time of 9:34.23, eclipsing the pace she set in the event a week prior (9:45.56). The winning time of 9:31.49 was set by Texas Christian University’s Gracie Morris.

Freshman Chanelle Kruger (Johannesburg, South Africa) also competed in the event and finished 20th with a time of 9:58.29.

The Bucs also placed second in the women’s distance medley on Friday night. The squad of Rebekah Howard (Ashland, Ky.), Hannah Burkhart (Knoxville, Tenn.), Julia Karsten (Old Hickory, Ten.) and Genevieve Schwarz (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) posted a second-best time of 11:46.68 behind the winning Arkansas State time of 11:44.22. The time posted by the Bucs also set a school record in the distance medley event.

For the men’s track and field efforts, it was the reigning SoCon Athlete of the Week, Phelani Maduwa (Parys, Free State, South Africa) that gave the Bucs their best finish in men’s competition with a sixth place finish in the 800m. Maduwa was the highest finishing non-Power 5 competitor with a time of 1:51.21 in the field of 52.

Joining Snyder in setting a personal best was that of William Hartig (Radford, Va.) in the men’s 3000m event with a time of 8:43.33 and a 29th place finish. The Bucs were lead in that event by Myles Stoots (Mobile, Ala.) and his time of 8:38.88 in 26th place out of 42 competitors.

The Bucs will be back in action again this weekend in Clemson, S.C. for the Bob Pollock meet on Jan. 27-28.
