With the recent popularity of movies such as “Knives Out” and Glass Onion,” the murder mystery genre is back in full force. If you enjoy these types of movies as much as I do, here’s a full list of various TV shows and films to watch when you want to embrace your inner detective.

“Murder Mystery” (2019)

This aptly titled film, starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, is currently streaming on Netflix and is sure to pique your interest if you are a fan of murder mysteries with a comedic twist. A sequel is also coming in March, so better late than never to get hooked on this fantastic thriller.

“White Lotus” and “Only Murders in the Building”

Both of these television shows follow a plot of interesting characters as they deal with an unsolved death. Even better, the episodic format makes for an even longer mystery to unravel than the typical movie runtime allows.

“Zodiac” (2007)

This film based on the real life serial killer, the Zodiac, is a little more chilling than some of the other choices in this article. But if you’re up to it, “Zodiac” is a murder mystery like no other with plenty of jump-scares and unsettling scenes. Spoiler alert: this mystery remains unsolved to this day, so don’t expect a grand reveal in the final scene. Maybe you will be the one to crack the case.

“Memento” (2000)

This Christopher Nolan film lives up to the hype as we follow a man who is attempting to solve his wife’s murder. “Memento” might be my favorite movie on this list, and I can almost guarantee that you won’t be able to solve the case until the very end.
If you’re looking for even more options for a murder mystery movie night, classics such as “Clue” (1985), “Murder on the Orient Express” (2017) and “Death on the Nile” (2022) are a great place to start. I hope you enjoy this list and watching all of these suspenseful and spectacular movies.
