Earlier this month, over 20 student organizations gathered on Main Street of the D.P. Culp Center on Wednesday as a part of the annual spring student activities and organizations showcase.

This year’s theme was “Buctoon Network,” a reminiscent twist on many students’ beloved television network, Cartoon Network. There were a variety of options to choose from as Cartoon Network broadcasted many of our favorite shows such as “Adventure Time” and “Back at the Barnyard.”

“This is the most exciting tabling event I’ve been a part of,” said Al Thebphakone, president of Circle K International. “I am a huge fan of Pokémon, so this was a very easy theme for me to recreate.”

Thebphakone represented Circle K International, an organization created to “better the community, one member at a time,” as he stated. They are the leading volunteer presence on campus and make it a mission to support community donation facilities throughout the semester.

“We always brainstorm ideas and vote on the top five themes for our events each year,” said Melissa Orozco-Perez, collaborative chair for Buctainment. “This year we were between the theme of Candyland, a circus theme and Buctoon Network. Ultimately, we are just always happy to see the student body and student organizations come out and support.”

Orozco-Perez was part of the team from Buctainment that organized this year’s showcase. Buctainment tabled in the Cave and chose the theme of Scooby-Doo this year.

Orozco-Perez was dressed up as Scooby as she passed out strips of paper with a chance for students to win a free t-shirt, if they received signatures from 10 tables. She stated that this gave students a chance to connect with different organizations and have a chance to become involved at ETSU.

Both organizations have events happening in the coming weeks. Circle K International will be helping sort donations at Wags to Riches in Johnson City on Feb. 18. Buctainment will be inviting students to paint pet rocks in the Cave on Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. and will be showing “Don’t Worry Darling,” later in the month.
