The ETSU Honors College recently sponsored 24 manikins and funding for CPR/AED certifications for Science Hill High School. This is the start of a series of adult and pediatric CPR, AED and first aid certifications through the American Red Cross.

The donation from the Honors College helped EMERGE pay the way for seventeen student certifications at Science Hill High School earlier this month.

The EMERGE club is ran by Mathew Rauhuff, the program director and an ETSU University Honors Scholar.

EMERGE is a nonprofit organization that utilizes student instructors to provide affordable access to emergency medical certification through the American Red Cross.

“Students and community members are able to be certified in Adult and Pediatric CPR, AED, and First Aid for $50, or $10 for the students and faculty in our new high school program,” said Rauhuff.

The EMERGE Club allows participants to serve their community and be competitive for healthcare related opportunities. Rauhuff also mentioned EMERGE provides a valuable outlet for ETSU student instructors to interact with the wider community.

“We’re always happy to work with the community to provide access to this essential information, because something as simple as recognizing sudden illness can be the difference in a life saved,” Rauhuff stated.
