Andrew Dunn, professor and chair of the Department of Media and Communication, has recently been named as a fellow of the American Council on Education (ACE). He was one of 36 fellows nationally selected for the 2023-2024 academic year.

The ACE Fellows Program, according to the website, is “a customized learning experience that enables participants to immerse themselves in the study and practice of leadership.” The program “condenses years of on-the-job experience and skills development into a single year.”

Being an ACE fellow entails being matched with another university, in which fellows will shadow that institution’s leadership, including the president and provost, for up to an entire school year. The insight and experience that Dunn will gain from this on-the-job training will then be brought back to ETSU.

“I applied for the fellowship with the help of my colleagues, Melanie Richards, Stephen Marshall and Andrew Hermann, who all wrote me some stellar recommendations, and with the support from Joe Bidwell, dean of the ETSU College of Arts and Sciences,” said Dunn. “I am kind of blown away to have been included in such an accomplished group.”

Dunn plans to use his position to focus on issues that matter to ETSU. His priorities lie in strategic planning for the university, finding ways for departments and other universities as a whole to collaborate with one another by offering a more flexible educational experience for students. Dunn expressed his interest in “delving into numbers,” making him keen on learning how other campuses manage student enrollment, rising costs and industry changes.

“I am so grateful to the American Council on Education for this honor. I look forward to meeting all of the 2023-2024 ACE Fellows Program Participants, and I especially look forward to learning from the vast network of mentors this program provides,” said Dunn.
