On Saturday, March 4, ETSU’s BucsWorth and East Tennessee Belles performed in the Grand Hall of the Martin Center.

The concert was entitled “Journey Home: East Tennessee Belles & BucsWorth.” The concert featured a variety of genres and composers.

Songs featured on the concert were “Kodutee (Journey Home)” by Kristjan Ukskiila and Part Uusberg, “Unclouded Day” by Rev. J.K. Atwood, “Pure Imagination” by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley, “Keep Your Lamps!” by André Thomas, “We’re Marchin’ to Zion” by Raymond Wise and more.

The song selections were made in order to make the audience feel as though they were on a journey back home with the choirs. Folk music often tells stories of going home, being with family, and better days, which are all featured within their song selection.

Jacob Perhne, a senior member of BucsWorth, gave an insight on what this concert meant to him.

“This is a landmark concert in our choirs program at ETSU, being the first to showcase only Belles and Bucsworth. I’ve got the chance to be a part of some awesome performances in Bucsworth, but I haven’t been this excited in a long time to sing with this group. The song selection for this concert is very folksy in terms of lyricism, so it will hopefully make the audience feel like they’re on the ‘journey home’ with us.”

BucsWorth, an award-winning tenor and bass choir on campus, is under the direction of Dr. Lauren Ramey, and the Belles, a talented soprano and alto choir, are directed by Kathryn May.

In upcoming events, the ETSU Chorale will be performing alongside the faculty strings in concert on March 24, 2023 at 7:30 pm in the Grand Hall of the Martin Center. For more Music Department events, visit https://www.etsu.edu/cas/music/events.php.
