The ETSU men’s golf team participated in the Wake Forest Invitational in Pinehurst, N.C. on March 6-7. The team is coming off a second-place finish in the spring opener at The Puerto Rico Classic.

On the first day of the tournament, ETSU’s Mats Ege (Kristiansand, Norway) and Remi Chartier (Montreal, Canada) led the way for the Bucs. After the first two rounds were complete, the team was tied for third place.

In the opener Ege had three birdies, 13 pars, and two bogeys. In the afternoon, Ege struggled as he bogeyed three of his first five holes but was able to finish strong for par in the round. He had birdies on the par-4, 387-yard No. 3, and the par-5, 576-yard No. 5. Ege was tied for seventh at even-par 140.

Chartier had back-to-back rounds of 71 and was tied for 16th at 2-over-par 142. Chartier had two birdies, 13 pars and three bogeys in round two. Chartier also was competitive in par-3 situations as he had an average of 2.63 in the two rounds.

On the last day of the tournament, it was the redshirt junior Chartier that led the Bucs. Chartier, in the final round, finished tied for 14th at 4-over-par 214. With back-to-back on No. 1 and No. 2, he was off to a fast start on the greens. He bogeyed three of his last five holes on the front nine, and totaled one birdie, four pars and three bogeys over his final eight holes. Ege led the Bucs with eight birdies over the span of the tournament. Three ETSU golfers posted a score below-par on the last day of play.

ETSU, despite a strong start being tied for third, finished ninth at 25-over par 301. Next, they will travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C. on March 13 to compete in the General Hackler Championship.
