ASHEVILLE, N.C. (March 21, 2023) – UNC Asheville Bulldogs took down the ETSU Bucs 10-6 at Greenwood Field.

56 degrees and cloudy in Asheville as the Bulldogs beat the Bucs despite ETSU having more hits and less errors.

It proved to be a tough day on the mound for the Bucs starter RHP Owen Kovacs (Knoxville, Tenn.). Kovacs tossed two innings, giving up four runs on 46 pitches.

Things did not begin much better for UNC Asheville’s starting pitcher, LHP Cole Schiff (Wake Forest, N.C.). The sophomore pitched just one frame on 33 pitches, walking three batters and giving up a run.

UNC Asheville’s first baseman Michael Groves (Holly Springs, N.C.) was the difference maker in today’s contest. Groves boasted batting 2-4 with a home run, a double and four RBI’s.

The most productive Buccaneer of Tuesday’s game was left fielder Garrett Wallace (Sanford, Fla.), who hit 2-4 on the day with a walk, home run and an RBI. Wallace also crossed home twice himself.

The Tuesday game resulted in 14 different pitchers on the mound collectively: Eight from UNC Asheville and six from ETSU.

There were only three errors committed in the game, two of which were committed by UNC Asheville’s Ty Kaufman (McDonough, Ga.) and Michael Groves.

UNC Asheville’s RHP Chris Sabo (Great Meadows, N.J.) was credited with the win, tossing two innings and only giving up one hit.

ETSU’s record now falls to 10-9 on the season while UNC Asheville improves to 13-7.

The Bucs have a few days of rest before coming back home to Thomas Stadium for a three-game weekend series versus SoCon rival Samford. Samford is struggling early this season with a 2-8 record on the road.
