Lana Del Rey’s newest album “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd” was released on Friday, March 25. Here’s a review of some of the fan-favorite songs off of the album.

“A&W”

One of the album’s singles, “A&W” is everything fans have come to love about Del Rey’s music. Starting off as a hauntingly beautiful ballad, the lyrics, “I haven’t done a cartwheel since I was nine,” draws the audience into the song’s narrative. However, the song shifts dramatically at the four minute mark, with a retro pop beat transforming listeners into a track that is reminiscent of the “Ultraviolence” era.

“Paris, Texas” (feat. SYML)

Perhaps my personal favorite track, a whimsical piano accompanies a beautiful melody that narrates a girl’s desire to run away to Paris….Texas. “When you know, you know. It’s time, it’s time to go,” the singer repeats during the chorus.

“Margaret” (feat. Bleachers)

Featuring the production and vocals of Jack Antonoff (lead singer of the Bleachers), “Margaret” tells the story of two lovers meeting for the first time, with the gentle strum of the guitar melding together with the singers’ vocals.

“Fishtail”

This track starts off strong with Del Rey singing, “Don’t you dare say that you’ll braid my hair, babe, if you don’t really care.” Similar to “A&W,” the retro pop production behind this song is one of its highlights.

“Taco Truck x VB”

The final track of the album, Del Rey ends on a powerful note with another song that has a fierce bass. However, this song is made iconic by Del Rey sampling a few verses off of one of her songs from the “Norman F*****g Rockwell!” album, “Venice Bitch.”

Overall, “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd” is Lana Del Rey at her best, with a wide variety of songs that cover a range of emotions and sounds. You can listen to the full album now on all streaming platforms.
