The ETSU Mary V. Jordan Multicultural Center hosted MCC Day which gave students the opportunity to have a crystal portrait made.

Multicultural Center Day took place on Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the D.P. Culp Student Center. Students lined up to take pictures at the selfie station and have a crystal image made. MCC Day is a way to promote the center and its work while offering students a unique opportunity.

The Multicultural Center works to promote and celebrate student diversity on campus. They provide students with a safe place and host events throughout the year to share their message.

Laura Terry, director of programming and outreach, said that MCC day is important in giving back to students and letting them know that the center cares about all students.

“It’s just a day to let students know we appreciate them,” said Terry. “We care and appreciate them and to let students know that we want them to come up to the Multicultural Center.”

Terry wants students to know that everyone is welcome in the Multicultural Center which offers a lounge for students to enjoy. Events hosted by the center allow students to meet new people and learn about others.

“We’re just trying to let the underrepresented students know that the Multicultural Center does care for everyone,” said Terry, “It’s for all students, any and everybody can come and join in with us.”

The event saw a very big turnout with a steady line of students throughout the day. Students who participated were able to get a crystal image of themselves with the date to keep. The center also allowed students to use the selfie station and offered refreshments to anyone interested.

The Multicultural Center encourages students to continue to come to events. The next event Terry has organized will be the annual Unity Fest which offers games and entertainment for everyone.
