JOHNSON CITY, TENN. (April 8, 2023) – Thomas Stadium saw plenty of baseball as this past week’s weather forced a doubleheader Saturday between the ETSU and Wofford.
Game One
Game one resulted in a 8-5 loss.
Game one featured ETSU southpaw Austin Emener (Macon, Ga.), who pitched the first 3.1 frames, giving up seven runs on five hits and six walks.
The first outing proved tough for both starting pitchers as Wofford righty Charlie Weber (St. Louis, Mo.) pitched just 3.2 innings, letting the Bucs cross home four times on six hits and a walk.
Despite the loss, a bright spot in the Bucs lineup was the five-hole hitter, Nick Iannantone (Plainfield, Ill.). The natural outfielder, who manned the DH spot in the lineup, went 2-3 with a run and a walk.
Wofford’s RHP Lucas Mahlstedt (Ormond Beach, Fla.) was credited with the win, improving his record to 4-0.
Bucs LHP Austin Emener was tallied with the loss, making his record 1-3 on the season.
Game Two
Game two resulted in a 2-1 walk-off win over the Wofford Terriers.
These nine innings were much more a defensive battle than the first nine. The game was completely scoreless until the top of the 5th when Wofford’s pitch runner, Shane Lussier (Atlanta, Ga.), stole home.
The Bucs were able to walk it off due to back-to-back RBI singles from Cody Miller (Rocky Point, N.Y.) and Cameron Sisneros (Littleton, Colo.).
ETSU righty Nathanial Tate (Manchester, Tenn.) was awarded with the win, bringing his 2023 campaign to 4-2.
Meanwhile, Wofford’s Coulson Buchanan (Sugar Hill Ga.) gets marked with the loss, dropping him to 3-2 on the year.
Following the double-header, the Bucs record stands at 14-15 overall and 2-4 in SoCon play.
The Bucs’ next game will be April 11 at Thomas Stadium vs Radford. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
Radford’s struggling team rides a 17-game losing streak and will be traveling to Thomas Stadium in hopes of ending their disappointing series.
