We’re going to White Bluff, Tennessee, today to visit the White Bluff screamer.

There are a variety of explanations for the cryptid, but the known information is that people regularly hear screaming in the area.

It might be hard to divulge specifics about the monster because, apparently, the area has multiple. Stories from the area range from werewolves and werewolf hunters, to banshees and ghosts.

A news article written by Chris Gadd for (ironically) The Tennessean, postulates that the lore comes from the story of a family tormented by nightly screaming. The husband left one night to search for it when he heard his family screaming and returned to find them all dead. In that version, there is said to be the figure of a woman dressed in white, which I think sounds similar either to the story of banshees or (for any “Supernatural” fans out there) the story of the white lady.

For those who don’t recognize the story of the white lady, it details a woman who finds that her husband is cheating and, in a fit of rage, kills her children. Realizing what she has done, she then kills herself. Not the nicest story, but definitely one full of drama and intrigue.

The other popular tale of the screamer says that it is an escaped animal from a traveling circus that was too violent for anyone to catch. Interestingly enough, Gadd’s article also details this and postulates that the same train that brought the circus to town also brought White Bluff’s very own werewolf.

This area is a popular area for cryptids, and a quick internet search for the White Bluff screamer brings up many news articles, podcasts and YouTube videos. I would encourage people to investigate it and the surrounding area more.
