JOHNSON CITY, TN. (April 15, 2023) – The Chattanooga Mocs traveled to Betty Basler Field in Johnson City for a Saturday doubleheader against the Bucs.
Game One
Bucs top Mocs in a 9-0 shutout, only giving up one hit.
ETSU gets on the board first from Taylor Suchy (Sterling, Va.), knocking in a three RBI triple in the first inning.
On the mound for the Bucs was RHP Brianna Bailey (Wewahitchka, Fla.); the redshirt senior threw five innings, only allowing one hit and zero runs.
Chattanooga was forced to dig into their bullpen early as starting pitcher Peja Goold (Stockton, Calif.) was pulled after recording just one out and giving up four runs in the first inning.
Bucs infielder Cameron Young (Knoxville, Tenn.) found a way to get on base each time she stepped up to the plate, going 2-2 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Young was also able to reach base a third time via HBP.
ETSU’s Brianna Bailey gets credited with the win, bringing her 2023 campaign to 8-8 as Mocs Peja Goold drops her record to 7-7.
Game Two
ETSU drops game two 6-1.
For game two, Chattanooga gave senior Brooke Parrott (Harrison, Tenn.) the nod to start things off. Parrott pitched all seven innings, only giving up one run on two hits.
On the mound for ETSU was freshman Kendall Thackston (Greenville, S.C.). Thackston finished the game allowing six runs, on ten hits and five strikeouts.
Thackston has seen the field some this season as a reliever, but this was her debut as a starter.
Mocs were throwing a no-hitter through the first three innings until ETSU’s Cam Young was able to record another double in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Bucs get on the board in the bottom of the 7th with a solo shot from Sara Muir (Sequatchie, Tenn.). Muir leads the team in home runs with nine.
Chattanooga’s Brooke Parrott improves her record to 3-4 as ETSU’s Kendall Thackston drops to 0-1.
The Bucs play again that Sunday to finish out their three-game series versus SoCon rival Chattanooga.
