“The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” by Suzanne Collins

The long-awaited “Hunger Games” prequel came out in May of 2020, but now it is being adapted into a film that is set to release on Nov. 17, 2023. Set several decades in the past, the plot follows a young Cornelius Snow as he acts as a mentor during the 10th Hunger Games. For all dystopian lovers, this book is the perfect summer read that contains action, romance and betrayal.

“Yellowface” by R.F. Kuang 

“Yellowface” is the perfect thriller and is sure to interest any reader. Releasing on May 16, 2023, the novel tells the story of authors June Hayward and Athena Liu as their careers go in drastically different directions. After a tragic accident, June gets a hold of Athena’s manuscript and passes it off as her own novel, but her secrets can only stay hidden for so long. This book focuses on the questions of how race, diversity and appropriation impact our society, all with the backdrop of a thrilling plot.
