ETSU women’s volleyball team was swept over the weekend by Ohio State at Highland Heights, Kentucky, where they participated in the Northern Kentucky Invitational. The match followed two other losses in the tournament — to Bowling Green and Northern Kentucky.
With 15 points in the first game, 13 in the second and 19 in the third, the Bucs lost 0-3. Enisilina Savelio (Henderson, Nev.) and Malgorzata Andersohn (Bydgoszcz, Poland) finished with 11 out of the 22 assists in the match. With 24 kills, 22 assists and 22 digs at the end of the game, Amanda Lowe (Blacksburg, Va.) had three digs and eight kills, while Brianna Cantrell (Appleton, Wis.) claimed six kills. Together, Lowe and Cantrell snagged 14 of the Bucs’ 24 kills in the game.
The Buckeyes enjoyed a strong opening to the match, winning the first game 25-15. They closed the game with 43 kills, 43 assists and 30 digs. Ohio State’s freshman Mia Tuman boasted 24 assists, and senior Emily Londot numbered 14 kills and three blocks.
While the average hitting percentage for volleyball is .250, the Buckeyes had four players hit over .500. Emily Landot hit a .524, giving the Buckeyes the advantage over the Bucs.
The Bucs are back in action Friday, Sept. 1, as they play Tennessee Tech at 11:30 a.m. in the Tennessee Tech Tournament. The Bucs home opener is Sept. 23 against Southern Conference foe Furman.
