Public Safety Expo coming to ETSU! Ginette St. Louis, a student here at ETSU, as well as a ROTC Cadet, is excited to announce that ETSU will be hosting a forum allowing Law Enforcement and public service representatives to introduce their fields to students.

These representatives won’t only be explaining their day to day life on the job, or answering questions, they will be discussing internship opportunities for students who want to enter a public service career. Each representative will come prepared and ready to discuss the benefits and requirements of their career field. If you have any interest in going into a public safety major or minor this expo is meant for you. This is an opportunity to hear from people who are first at hand on the job and who could be a future resource for you. Students, this is where you start networking, don’t miss the opportunity to learn and grow your education for public safety.

The Public Safety Expo will be on Sept. 20, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event will consist of a series of 15-minute presentations from each representative.

Louis stated, “The different representatives that will take part in this event will be police officers, state troopers, military personnel from Air Force, Army, Navy and Marine corps, firefighters, EMTs, the FBI and more.” Representatives will be encouraged to answer questions from students and attendees about their fields, as well provided refreshments throughout the night.

Louis explained, “My hopes are that students who are looking to go into law enforcement and public service can experience and interact with this law enforcement personnel.”

This is an opportunity for students to get first hand information, instead of scouting on websites for information on employment opportunities or fighting with the confusion of internship applications.

Furthermore, not everyone that goes to college wants to be in the career field they get their degrees in. Louis explained, “For example, just because a student is in school for public health, does not mean they want to work in health care, they might want to be a police officer or a firefighter. This is an opportunity for those students. Those students that’s not going to the primary career fields.” This expo is meant to inspire students around campus about law enforcement and public service.

Louis wanted to add, “I am partnering with Jesse Anderson with University Career Services, Dr. Kevin Brooks with Mary V. Jordan from the Multicultural Center and Chris Strode with TRIO Student Support Services.”

This event has taken a lot of effort and dedication. Teams of people were willing to put so much time into this expo and make sure it was able to happen for you, the students here at ETSU. They are hoping for a good turnout, make sure to not miss out if this is something that can beneficially impact your future!
