ETSU’s Strategic Media Club is making a comeback this fall post-COVID.

The Strategic Media Club combines two premier strategic professional organizations, the American Advertising Federation, and the Public Relations Student Society of America, into one organization. This provides students with an opportunity to better understand today’s media environment. By allowing students these professional experiences, the club gives students ample opportunities to prepare for their future.

“So we emphasize building students’ professional networking skills. For example, we will have guest speakers come to campus, as well as join us on Zoom and share a little bit about what their role is within whatever their organization is, and they also tend to tell students some hiring tips,” Megan Short, the club’s advisor explained.

The club allows students, both in and out of this field, to learn how to sell themselves in the professional world context.

Holden Gaylor, president, recommends the Strategic Media Club to students saying, “The club provides an invaluable platform to enhance professional skills in media-related fields.”

While we are over a year out of the pandemic, the club is making a complete comeback this fall, with big plans of going to conferences, planning workshops and hosting guest speakers. Last year they went to Orlando as a small way to start their club back up after the effects of the pandemic. This was a way for students to begin to get to know each other and to form a community.

“I like to call it a soft launch [Orlando]… just kind of getting our foot back in the game,” Short said when mentioning the club’s activities last year. “This is definitely the comeback year.”

Students wanting to get involved in the Strategic Media Club can contact either Megan Short, Brad Bode or club leaders Holden Gaylor and Kix Scott at etsusmc1@gmail.com. Since the Strategic Media Club is also a club with ETSU they can find information in Buc Hub.
